Rachel Fanner’s Exhibition of Paintings to Be Viewed At Sladers Yard
An exhibition inspired by ancient woodland is launching online.
Experienced artist Rachel Fanner’s latest exhibition can be viewed on the Sladers Yard (West Bay) website until Friday, March 12.
The focus of the paintings in the exhibition is Ty-canol in Wales, an ancient woodland of which very little remains.
Rachel produced most of her paintings as a release after lockdown last summer, when she was finally able to visit the woodlands and the coast.
After visiting Ty-canol, she described it as ‘intense’ and ‘like a revelation’.
She said: “I felt surrounded by personalities who were interacting with each other. I thought, I love this place and these paintings poured out in the following weeks.”
Rachel’s painting style is inspired by the Modern British painters both pre and post Second World War.
She was one of the first environmental sculptors in the seventies and eighties, working for councils all over Britain to make public spaces into artworks relating to the natural world.
