President Bola Tinubu has made significant changes to Nigeria’s security apparatus by appointing new service chiefs and naming Nuhu Ribadu, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as the new National Security Adviser (NSA). Ribadu replaces Babagana Monguno in this role.

In addition to these appointments, Tinubu also approved the selection of Adeniyi Adewale as the Acting Comptroller General of Customs. This decision comes alongside the removal of all the service chiefs who were in office before Tinubu assumed the presidency.

The appointed service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, and Comptroller General of Customs will assume their positions on an acting basis until their confirmation according to the Nigerian Constitution.

These changes come in response to calls from civil society organizations to revamp the security architecture and bring fresh perspectives to the nation’s security challenges. During his inauguration speech, Tinubu emphasized the need to address terrorism and criminality by reforming the security doctrine and architecture.

The new appointments are as follows:

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu – National Security Adviser (NSA)
Maj. Gen. C.G Musa – Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja – Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla – Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)
AVM H.B Abubakar – Chief of Air Staff (CAS)
DIG Kayode Egbetokun – Acting Inspector-General of Police
Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye – Chief of Defense Intelligence
