Nigerian President-elect Tinubu to take office on May 29 despite legal challenges.

Nigeria’s Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, has confirmed that Bola Tinubu’s inauguration ceremony will proceed as scheduled on May 29th, despite ongoing legal challenges. Mohammed dismissed the possibility of an interim government, stating that opposition parties have the right to challenge the election results in court.

Four presidential candidates have filed legal challenges against Tinubu’s victory, citing widespread rigging and manipulation of tallies.

The legal process typically takes around eight months, with a maximum of 180 days to hear the initial petition and 21 days to appeal at the Court of Appeal.

If dissatisfied with the appellate court’s decision, petitioners can appeal at the Supreme Court, whose decision is final, within 21 days of the ruling. The legal challenges will not affect the planned inauguration ceremony.
