Nigeria’s launches First Ever State Owned Airline in Akwa Ibom
Akwa ibom state shocks the nation Nigeria, as it is the first state in the country to run a state owned airport and run an airline.
On Wednesday the 20th of February the Akwa ibom government launched its own airline, Ibom Air.
Various dignitaries were Present at the inauguration of Ibom Air, including the Nigerian senate president Bukola Saraki at the victor Attah international Airport in Uyo yesterday.
The senate president Bukola Saraki, was the first to arrive at the airport in the new airplane. He acknowledged the state governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel on his great leadership skills which have created an environment for achievable development.
The Aircraft C-FWNK is said to be six years old, and a capacity to sit ninety people. The Aircraft also comprises of the recent modern fleet of the Canadian airbus making it comfortable and relaxing for air travelers.
Ibom Airline is to be operated as a business as it will ply routes that will be beneficial to the people of Akwa Ibom. The state government is said to soon initiate the best terminal buildings in the country.
Before now air travel in Nigeria has been facing a lot of oppositions which include reoccurring flight cancelation and low customer gratification as well as low returns on investments.
Ibom Air is aimed at developing Nigeria’s economy on sea, land and air, as they have being able to establish roads of over 1,000 kilometers in the state.
Gabriel Ukpeh the chairman, Committee on Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in Akwa Ibom state, during a radio interview in Uyo said “ For the first time in history of not just in Nigeria but in Africa, no state government has owned its own airline and this goes to show the mind-set and the experience of the governor in terms of business”. This is phenomenal as it is the first of its kind.
