Nigerian President, VP, Daughters Join EndSARS Campaign
President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo’s daughters – Zahra Buhari and Kiki Osinbajo – have lent their voices to the #EndSARS campaign.
25-year-old Zahra took to her Instagram Story to show solidarity with Nigerian youths who have been protesting alleged harassment, extortion and extra-judicial killings by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in parts of the country.
She simply wrote on her Instagram Story: #EndPoliceBrutality. Similarly, Kiki, who is the CEO of beauty house ‘Glam d’Africa’ condemned alleged brutality by SARS operatives in an Instagram post.
She wrote: “Police brutality must end now. #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSARS”.
EndSARS is a social movement that has been going on for a while, but which gained momentum in the last few days due to increased reports of harassment and extra-judicial killings by operatives of the police unit.
The movement, which started on Twitter, evolved into street protests across the country and overseas.
THE WHISTLER reported earlier that the campaign had gained international attention as no fewer than five American and British celebrities have lent their voices to the movement.
