Man Utd fans have Dayot Upamecano transfer theory after RB Leipzig are thumped
Manchester United fans have joked that Dayot Upamecano’s performance for RB Leipzig in their 5-0 loss to the Red Devils on Wednesday means the defender can complete a cut-price move to Old Trafford next summer.
Upamecano has been linked with a number of top European sides, including United, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had commented ahead of the match about getting the chance to “see him up close”.
However, the France international struggled, with hat-trick hero Marcus Rashford getting the better of him after he was introduced off the bench.
And some United supporters believe Rashford’s display will lower Upamecano’s asking price if the Red Devils do come in for him.
“With what Rashford did to him yesterday. Upamecano is now £15million not £40million anymore,” wrote one United fan.
“Rashford has done a better job of lowering Upamecano’s transfer value than Woodward’s first offer ever could,” joked another.
“And hat trick hero Marcus Rashford reduced the price of Upamecano to £20M”, wrote a third.
However, former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has claimed United may reconsider making a move for the 22-year-old after his performance against them.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton said: “Upamecano has had a stinker this second half.
“I was reading this morning that United are going to be in for Upamecano very, very soon.
“But if you were actually scouting him on tonight’s performance, I don’t think you’d take him!
“I suppose if you were scouting Harry Maguire, for arguments sake, you would say he was top class. Funny old game!”
Former Red Devil Rio Ferdinand labelled Upamecano’s display a ‘nightmare’ telling BT Sport: “This is about being ruthless but I thought Upamecano had a nightmare today. This is the ruthlessness.
“There was no doubt in your mind, once he went through there, the confidence he’s showing at the moment and just his intent of hitting the back of the net and getting amongst the goals.
“Game over. There’s a venom when he hits it like that.”
