Lionel Messi Has Made PSG Weaker – Michael Owen
Paris Saint-Germain is unbalanced and is ‘weaker’ with Lionel Messi in the side.
That’s the controversial opinion of former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen, who was not impressed with the Ligue 1 side’s shape in a 1-1 draw against Club Brugge on Tuesday night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed to beat the Belgians, with Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe failing to impress up front in the disappointing draw.
The former Spurs boss has struggled to find a balance between the side’s star-studded front line and the rest of the team so far this term.
And Owen believes Messi’s introduction has actually made the side weaker, with the former England ace backing the Premier League’s contingent to go further in the Champions League.
‘As much as we drool over them, this PSG team with those forwards, they’re all phenomenal players in their own right,’ Owen told BT Sport.
But three together makes it weaker for me and I don’t really understand why they’re one of the favourites for it (the Champions League). I think the English teams (Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Man United) are far, far superior.’
