Lakers Head Coach Frank Vogel on Protecting Karl-Anthony Towns
The Los Angeles Lakers recovered from a loss against the Denver Nuggets by defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center. While the rookie Anthony Edwards exploded with 28 points, the rest of the T-Wolves were kept under 20 points. Among them was former number one pick Karl-Anthony Towns who had 15 points, almost 6 points less than his season average.
After the game the Lakers head coach Frank Vogel talked about guarding Towns. “A guy like KAT can hurt you in so many different ways. I thought Marc [Gasol] really competed in terms of low-post action and communicated well when we needed to switch out on his three-point attack. And our guards really listened up.
“We didn’t do a good enough job with Joker and even with Horford before that and in some ways Valanciunas. But our guards were really locked into getting back out to the three-point line with Towns. And then when he came down inside I thought Marc was terrific in that match up and even Trez [Harrell] competed well in his minutes when they were matched up together. So both centers did a really good job tonight on the big fella.”
