Those looking forward to the launch of Kenya’s first operational earth observation satellite will have to wait a little longer.

Kenya’s long-awaited first earth observation satellite, Taifa-1, faced yet another setback as its launch from California, USA was canceled just 28 seconds into the flight by Space X on Friday, April 14.

This marks the third failed attempt to launch the satellite, which is now scheduled for launch on Saturday, April 15. Despite the disappointment caused by the bad weather that caused the delay, engineers on site are optimistic and philosophical about the situation, acknowledging that the launch process is delicate and involves a significant investment.

Taifa-1 carries an optical camera capable of imaging in five multispectral bands, with a ground sampling distance of 32 meters, as well as a panchromatic band with a GSD of 16 meters. The satellite is the first of a constellation of small earth observation satellites that will form the Taifa-1 mission, according to the Kenya Space Agency.
