Kate Middleton arrived at Windsor Castle for Prince Philip’s funeral wearing a pearl choker, which she previously wore at an event to celebrate 70 years of marriage between the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen

The Duchess of Cambridge previously wore the necklace at the pair’s 70th wedding anniversary celebrations at the same location in November 2017 after it was loaned to her by the Queen.

Kate was seen wearing the jewelry as she arrived alongside husband Prince William as one of thirty mourners attending the service, along with a black face mask, dress, fascinator, and a pair of pearl earrings.

The four-strand necklace with a diamond studded clasp had been gifted to the Queen by the Japanese government, and she wore it herself on various occasions in the 1980s and 1990s.

Princess Diana, Kate’s late mother-in-law, had also borrowed the piece for a state banquet in 1982 held at Hampton Court Palace in honour of the Netherlands.

Kate and Philip were said to have shared a special bond through their similar sense of humour and devotion to duty, and were often spotted standing together on the balcony of Buckingham palace for Trooping of the Colour.

It was a relationship that Prince William referred to as he paid tribute to his grandfather, noting: “I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her.”
