Ghana recorded 64 kidnap cases in 2018, 23 of which were true kidnap cases and 28 of which were abductions. Two Canadian women who were recently kidnapped in Ghana have been rescued by the Police. The rescue comes after the Canadian authorities sent security personnel to assist their Ghanaian counterparts in rescuing them.

The Canadians who are on an exchange programme in Ghana’s second largest city Kumasi were abducted last week. The UK and Canadian governments have issued terror alerts to their citizens traveling to Ghana or those residing in the West African nation in the wake of the kidnapping of the Canadians.

The Australian government is the latest to also do same pledging 75,000 Australian Dollars to assist with anti -terrorism operations in Ghana.

The rescued Canadians have been transported to the national capital Accra and are in good health and at least two people have been arrested over the crime. However, the government of Ghana has dismissed the terror alerts and has asked its citizens not to panic.

Meanwhile, the three teenage girls who were kidnapped in Takoradi, Western Ghana in 2018 have still not been found.
