For the first time in the history of South Africa, half of all the ministers in its news cabinet are women.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the new cabinet in south Africa which is gender balanced, as one of the women is from the opposition party, which is an unexpected move .

The president appointed Patricia de Lille ,the veteran opposition politician who had stood for the Good Party, as minister of infrastructure development.

He had called the cabinet ”bloated”, reducing the ministers in the cabinet to 28 from 36 ministers.

The opposition Economic Freedom Fighters party had a different view of the development. s

In a statement, the opposition party said that the idea of the reduction of the size of the cabinet was “the first sign of absolute dishonesty” because, at the same time, the president had increased the number of deputy ministers.

This developments they claimed, does not match up.

According to our sources, Mr Ramaphosa has pledged to root out corruption, but eyebrows have been raised that he retained Deputy President David Mabuza.

Mr Mabuza, a close ally of former President Jacob Zuma, denies allegations of involvement in political killings and illegal tenders.

The ministers in the new cabinet are due to be sworn in later on Thursday 30th may 2019.
