France has promised to support Nigeria in its fight against violent extremism.

According to the French Government, it will be a partner to Nigeria especially in the fight against Boko Haram’s insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.

Due to that, the defense ministers of France and Nigeria have signed a security agreement that includes arms procurement.

The Nigerian Government which has in recent time come under pressure for the security crisis sees the support from France as a huge boost in the fight against a seven year Boko Haram insurgency.

France pledged the support during the Paris Summit on Africa held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
