Former President Barack Obama is “feeling fine” after contracting covid.

Though Covid-19 cases have continued to fall across the country, that doesn’t mean the virus is no longer a threat. On Sunday, former President Barack Obama announced he had contracted the coronavirus.

“I just tested positive for COVID,” he wrote on Twitter. “I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise.”

While Obama has tested positive for Covid-19, so far, the former first lady has not. “Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative,” the 44th president added.

Thanks to safety measures and high vaccination rates — at least 254 million people (or about 77 percent of Americans) have received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — new covid infections are at their lowest rate since last summer. Still, the threat of new variants and growing infection rates in countries like China and Australia mean people have to remain vigilant against the virus.

Obama hammered that message home on Twitter, writing: “It’s a reminder to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, even as cases go down.”
