Kenyan marathon icon Eliud Kipchoge has won the Best Male Athlete of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Kipchoge was feted with the prestigious prize following his heroics during the postponed Summer Games staged in Japan between June and July.

At the time, the legendary marathoner withstood the harsh weather conditions in Sapporo to storm to victory in the men’s marathon race.

The 36-year-old showed the intent of proving once again why he is the world’s greatest after the 30km-mark when he broke to take a comfortable lead.

He clocked an impressive 2.08.38 to storm to victory to win Team Kenya’s fourth gold medal in Tokyo, finishing ahead of Dutchman Abdi Negeeye and Belgian Bashir Abdi.

The heroics saw him successfully defend his Olympic title at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming only the third athlete in history to achieve the feat.

Kipchoge’s performance has now seen him crowned the 2020 Olympics’ Best Male Athlete, beating eight others who were gunning for the award.

Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei who finally clinched his first Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games was among those shortlisted for the award.

Reacting to his latest achievement, Kipchoge described the recognition as an honor, adding he was proud.

“It is an honour to win the ANOC Award for the Best Male Athlete at the Tokyo Olympics. With so many beautiful performances by so many athletes, I am proud to be the recipient of this award,” he tweeted.

“Thank you all for your great support,” he added.
