Champion UFC fighter Conor McGregor announced that he is ready to retire from Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
He made his intentions known on his twitter handle.
“Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.
Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!” he wrote on twitter.
However, this is not the first time Conor would make such announcement on twitter; he made similar announcement in April 2016 he wrote “I have decided to retire young, thanks for the cheese. Catch ya’s later”. He later cleared the air on Facebook two days after.
Evening before Conor announcement on twitter he told Jimmy Fallon the host of “The Tonight Show” on air that he was in talks for a fight in July; this statement contradict his announcement.
McGregor is currently serving a six-month ban after an outside-ring brawl with rival Khabib Nurmagomedov back in October. He was also arrested in Florida earlier this month after he smashed a fan’s phone and left with the remains outside a hotel in Miami.
However, UFC President Dana White believe the announcement and he said, “It totally makes sense,” White said in a statement sent to ESPN. “He has been so fun to watch!!! He has accomplished incredible things in this sport.”
“I am so happy for him and I look forward to seeing him be as successful outside of the octagon as he was in it,” he added
