AU Chairperson Condemns Israel ‘Bombardments’ In Gaza
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission has condemned the bombing of the Gaza Strip by Israeli forces and its “violent attacks” against worshippers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Moussa Faki Mahamat said the Israeli army’s actions and evictions of Palestinians from their homes were a violation of international law.
“The [AU Commission chairman] condemns the bombardments in the Gaza Strip that killed more than 21 Palestinians, and the violent attacks in the Al-Aqsa mosque committed by Israeli security forces against Palestinian worshippers wounding some 300 worshippers during the holy month of Ramadan,” the AU said in a statement.
At least 40 people have died in some of the worst violence between Israel and Gaza in years.
Israel’s military says it is targeting militants in Gaza in response to rocket attacks on Jerusalem and other areas.
The AU commission chairman called for “renewed and genuine international efforts” to resolve the conflict
