An Artwork in the Style of Banksy Appears On Wall in Winchester
An artwork in the style of Banksy stunned passers-by who spotted it on an underpass in Winchester.
The mural – depicting a child holding a colourful kite on a string – appeared on Sunday morning on the wall next to a footpath by The Handlebar Cafe.
Speculation was rife on social media over whether the anonymous street artist had turned his attention to Hampshire.
But it turned out to be the work of a local artist who created it to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Hendog – posting on @hendog_art on Instagram – said: “To all the mums, I left a little surprise at the @handlebarcafe_ for you happy Mother’s Day you really deserve it.”
The cafe responded by saying: “Thanks so much to @hendog_art we love your work. Our social enterprise says Thank you for making Mother’s day so special.”
Earlier this month Banksy claimed responsibility for a mural which appeared overnight on the side of HMP Reading in Berkshire – depicting a prisoner attempting to escape over the wall.
