Celebrated singer, songwriter, and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72. The tragic news was reported by The Niche newspaper, which detailed the circumstances surrounding her sudden death.
On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Onyeka Onwenu collapsed after performing at a birthday party for renowned businesswoman Stella Okoli. According to eyewitness accounts, the legendary performer had just delivered a heartfelt and energetic performance when she suddenly slumped. Despite being promptly transported to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, the efforts to save her were in vain.
“It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs Stella Okoli today, and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it,” an eyewitness revealed to The Niche. Another guest at the event shared their disbelief, saying, “I have never seen anything like this before. She had just come down from the stage after performing energetically and admirably as always. And went to her seat where she slumped. It is still like a dream.”
