Three individuals lost their lives in a helicopter accident in southeastern Congo, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on Monday when a helicopter owned by a mining corporation crashed while en route from one mine to another.

The wreckage was discovered in a ravine in the cobalt-rich province of Lualaba. The victims, who were subcontractors for Boss Mining, included a South African, the head of G4S security company, a Polish deputy, and a French pilot. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown.

The bodies have been transported to a morgue in the nearby city of Lubumbashi. Congo is renowned for its abundance of minerals, being the world’s largest cobalt producer and Africa’s leading copper producer, with recent discoveries of lithium as well.
