Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi announced plans to sign a security agreement with South Africa to address ongoing militia occupation in eastern Congo.

The accord may take the form of a mutual-defence pact, drawing inspiration from the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Both presidents expressed commitment to combat insecurity and poverty in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and strengthen bilateral cooperation on security and defence. Tshisekedi emphasized the need for dialogue to resolve the conflict but refused to engage with the M23 rebel group.
