Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the president of the African Development Bank, will lead a roundtable discussion on the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa during the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact in Paris on June 22, 2023.

The event aims to promote the Alliance as a platform to finance climate-resilient and green infrastructure projects in Africa. It will bring together heads of state, development partners, and representatives from financial institutions. The Alliance, an initiative of the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, and Africa50, aims to raise $500 million in blended finance capital to support up to $10 billion in projects and programs that promote a transition to net-zero emissions in Africa.

The roundtable discussion will provide an update on the Alliance’s progress since its launch and attract new partners and financiers. The Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, seeks to address issues such as inequality, debt overhangs, climate change, and biodiversity protection, with the participation of global leaders and stakeholders. Chinese Premier Li Qiang and U.S Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen are expected to attend.
