According to Alhaji Umar Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the torrential rains witnessed on Monday in three Local Government Areas of the state impacted nearly 1,500 dwellings.

Over 800 houses were impacted in Faskari, 400 in Bindawa, and 300 in Sabuwa Local Government Areas, Mohammed told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Katsina (LGAs).

He said that two people died in Bindawa LGA as a result of the severe rain, which lasted over five hours, and that the agency was already looking into how to help the victims.

Many motorists were compelled to leave their vehicles due to the torrential rain that began at 10 a.m. on Monday and ended about 4 p.m.

Certain Katsina locals voiced concern about the flooding of some main roadways as a result of the heavy rain.

Many vehicles travelling via the Kofar Kaura roundabout and sections of the metropolis’ layout region were able to detour utilizing a single lane of the road.

Malam Muhammad Safana, one of the motorists, characterized the situation as worrisome, warning that if the heavy rains persisted, the situation would worsen.

“As you can see, the rain produced flooding, which clogged several main city highways as people looked for a way out, and some homes were also damaged.

Some structures were also impacted as I passed through the Tudun Katsira layout owing to a lack of appropriate drainage in the regions. Even locations with drainage are clogged with garbage, preventing water from flowing freely during the rainy season,” he added.

Another motorist, Malam Abubakar Sani, urged the state government to take urgent action to avoid similar incidents from occurring again.

“I hope that this tragedy serves as a wake-up call to the state administration to take quick measures to prevent similar occurrences,” Sani added.
