Kanye West buys Kim Kardashian hologram of her late father for 40th birthday
Kanye West has bought Kim Kardashian West a hologram of her late father, Robert Kardashian, to celebrate her 40th birthday.
On Thursday, the reality TV star shared a clip of the hologram on Twitter and described it as “the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime”.
“For my birthday, Kanye got me the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime,” she wrote.
“A special surprise from heaven. A hologram of my dad. It is so lifelike! We watched it over and over, filled with emotion.”
The hologram of Robert Kardashian, who was well-known for being one of OJ Simpson’s defence attorneys, shows him wearing a beige suit.
It speaks for around three minutes, directly addressing Kardashian and her decision to become a lawyer “and carry on my legacy”.
“Happy Birthday Kimberly!” the hologram begins.
“Look at you! You’re 40 and all grown up. You look beautiful just like when you were a little girl.
“I watch over you and your sisters and brother and the kids every day. Sometimes I drop hints that I’m around.
“Remember when I would drive you to school in my tiny Mercedes every day and we would listen to this song together.” it recalled as the song “Who Put The Bomp” by Barry Mann played out.
“I am so proud of the woman you have become, Kimberly, and all that you’ve accomplished,” it continues.
“All of your hard work, all of the businesses you have built are incredible.
“But most impressive is your commitment to become a lawyer and carry on my legacy.”
The hologram was referring to Kardashian’s four-year apprenticeship program at a well known California law firm.
“It’s a long and a hard road, but it’s worth it. And I am with you every step of the way,” the hologram added before going on to discuss the Kardashian family’s Armenian heritage.
“The way that you’re connecting with your roots and supporting Armenia means so much to me. You are a proud Armenian and I am a proud Armenian father,” it said.
“But the most important thing that I have witnessed is watching you grow your family. You married the most, most, most, most genius man in the whole world, Kanye West.
“You are the most, most, most, most amazing mother to your four beautiful children. They are perfect. Keep doing what you’re doing, Kimberly.
“You are a beautiful soul. Know that I am very proud of you and I am always with you.”
In a subsequent tweet, Kardashian seemed at a loss as to how to relay how meaningful the hologram was to her.
“I can’t even describe what this meant to me and my sisters, my brother, my mom and closest friends to experience together,” she said.
“Thank you so much Kanye for this memory that will last a lifetime. Here’s a more close-up view to see the incredible detail.”
It’s not the first time that a celebrity has been resurrected via hologram for a special occasion, with Amy Winehouse, Tupac, and Ronald Reagan all having appeared in this way for exhibitions or live shows in recent years.
A production company named Kaleida has said it is behind the “holographic resurrection” of Mr Kardashian. The holograms rely on an optical illusion that help to create the three-dimensional image on-screen.
Kaleida’s website states that the projection was displayed in Tahiti, where Kardashian is thought to have recently celebrated her 40th birthday.
Kardashian has faced a backlash for the celebration after she has shared numerous photographs of on social media.
Alongside photos of the celebrations, during which social distancing does not appear to be adhered to and guests were not wearing face masks, Kardashian wrote a lengthy post detailing the extravagant affair.
“I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time,” she said, noting that all guests were asked to quarantine and undergo “two weeks of multiple health screens”.
“We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more,” she added.
“I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40.”
